About Calculators

Calculators (calculators.whattodoincaseof.com) publishes free calculators for the numbers that decide everyday situations: what a salary really pays, what a place costs to live in, what debt costs over time, what a car or a trip adds up to, and what a business or a website earns.

The idea behind the site is that a number on its own is not useful. Every calculator here shows the formula it used, explains the result in plain English, says what the result does not include, and suggests what to check next. Where a result implies a situation, the page names it and shows the thresholds behind the label.

Everything here is educational. We are calculators and writers, not a bank, lender, landlord, tax adviser or financial adviser, and we never store the numbers you enter. Results are estimates built from the inputs you provide and from public formulas; they are not tailored advice and they do not replace an official source or a professional.

The calculators are built to be extended. Each one is configuration: its inputs, its formulas, its result labels, its thresholds and its recommendations are stored as data and editable from the administration panel, which is how the catalog grows without rewriting the platform.
