Billable hours

Billable hours are the hours a freelancer can invoice. Everything else, including administration, invoicing, marketing, learning and email, is unpaid work that still has to be priced into the rate.

Overestimating the billable share is the most common mistake in freelance pricing, because it produces a rate that quietly delivers a lower income than intended.
