Charging efficiency

Charging efficiency is the share of the electricity drawn from the grid that actually reaches an electric car battery. The remainder is lost as heat in the charger, the cable and the battery itself.

Losses typically sit between five and fifteen per cent and are worse in cold weather and at high charging speeds, which is why the cost per mile is slightly higher than the battery capacity alone suggests.
